The Secret Island (Lazzareto Nuovo island and more by bragozzo )

In the year 1468 a ship coming from the Middle East to Venice was obliged to dock at the “Vigna Murada”, an island of walled vineyards. Often these ships were suspected of bringing an infectious disease to Venice. The threat from the plague was ever present. This was in fact the Quarantine island. Come with us on a typical traditional wooden Venetian boat, the “bragozzo”. You will have the chance to discover some of the secret canals of Venice. As we leave the main island, navigating through the open lagoon you will enjoy one of the most precious naturalistic and historical itineraries while tasting a glass of our country side white wine, Prosecco . You pass by the defensive walls of the ancient Arsenal, the Certosa and Sant Andrea islands, one of the greatest fortresses that once guarded Venice. On the secret island of the Vigna Murada you have the opportunity to discover some imposing building such as the “Teson Grande” an old depository within whose walls are preserved interesting drawings and writings from the 15th Century that list ships' contents and describe old trade routes and ancient cities. On the way back you navigate through one of the three openings of the lagoon and have the chance to get off on the splendid fortress island of Sant Andrea. This tour operates only during the warmer months.
