Venice in two parts and it is the biggest
road of water of Venice. The grand canal in showy
handles for four kilometres, designing itself a large S. The Grand
Canal are crossed by 3 bridges, the Rialto Bridge which is the most famous,
the Accademia bridge and the Scalzi bridge, and the new bridge designed by Calatrava
is the fourth one.
Along its sides comes up about two hundred wonderful palaces, built on ancient stilt
houses (palafitte) by Venetian's aristocracy.
Today many palaces accommodate luxury hotels, museums and institutions.
The most beautiful palaces and buildings in Venice are built on the sides of grand canal, some of the most important and famous are: Scalzi church and bridge, Labia Palace, Vendramin Calergi Palace which today is the centre of casino, Ca' d'Oro, the Germans' Fondaco, Mocenigo Palace, Grassi Palace, the Turks' Fondaco today museum of Natural History, Ca' Foscari today University centre, Ca' Rezzonico, Moro Palace and Venier dei Leoni Palace which accommodate the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, these are only some of the most important.
