Ca’ Zacco, the view of architects Valeriano Pastor and Michelina Michelotto

The two architects’ residence designed by the reknowened couple Valeriano Pastor and Michelina Michelotto – Venice 1964-65

The project to transform a portion of the main floor of the Gothic Ca’ Zacco arose during a period of successful experimentation with living spaces within Venetian homes and palaces.

The two architects Valeriano Pastor and Michelina Michelotto engaged in a constant dialogue with the exterior, expanding the “window-device,” thus inventing an intermediate space between interior and exterior through which the city could flow. The perceived space expands.

The house extends over multiple levels with generous double heights—main floor, mezzanine, and attic—and, despite its distinct spaces, offers continuous spatial connections between each room.

The storage units and cupboards are volumes that compose a rich and complex internal “urban” landscape, and the boldly used colors are a transfiguration of the colors of Venice and underscore the design choices.

This space is managed by the cultural association held by the descendants. The house can be visited upon request and if available.
